NATIONAL WEEKEND
Concours Competition Changes

(Links to view or download information are at the end of this page)
Updated 15 May 2010 (Drafted 8 Dec 2009)

The concours event at National Weekends is being conducted in the updated format introduced at Napier in 2008  This was done in repose to requests from TR owners to provide more classes and recognise TR's that may not be in a strictly original state but are in top condition and deserve recognition.

As a result of this, in addition to the traditional four Concours classes that have been competed for in past years, the four new classes introduced in 2008 for TRs that have been modified in some way that, in the past, would have lost points for non-originality will be continued.    Over time there has been a number of TRs lovingly restored but not to strictly original specifications.   In keeping with one of the Registers primary objects "Preservation of the Marque" originality has, and always will be, been a significant aspect of Concours competitions and these non-original but otherwise excellent TRs have sometimes not received the accolades they may have deserved.  The "Modified" ( or "Non-standard") classes should address this point.

Another new event, "Pride of Ownership", was also introduced in 2008 that will provide a competition for those TRs (and their owners) that are not in serious concours condition but are loved and cared for.    Part of this will involve convincing the judges that you are proud of your TR by displaying a potted history along with photographs.

In 2009 a further new event was introduced - The Masters Class.
This is one competition between the winning TRs (all models) of the previous year's Standard & Modified classes.   These cars and only these cars may enter in this class in the year following a win in the Standard or Modified class as they may not enter either the Standard or Modified class for that year.

As noted above there were several new concepts and procedures introduced in 2009 and, from everyone's experiences and subsequent input, improvements for the years to follow may come to light and constructive comment is very welcome.  At this point, it is not intended to make any major changes before the Waitomo event although some details of the format of the "Pride of Ownership" competition are under review to make the judges task a little easier .   The information on the pages linked below with the rules, scoring sheets and judging guidelines will be updated from time to time in preparation for the next National Weekend.

The Concours Competition Classes are:
  • Standard Class: (Same as in previous years - For original TR's)
    TR2, 3, 3A and Derivatives

    TR6
    TR7, 8 and Derivatives

A new class for winners of the previous years Standard & Modified Class

One competition for all cars entered (no segregation by body shape)

Peoples Choice:

This award is not part of the Concours competitions and will be the same as in previous years with the wining car selected by popular vote.

Points to note:
  • A TR can only be entered in one of the above Concours Classes.
    .
  • Choice of class to enter will be normally be made with your entry for the National Weekend.
    .
  • The choice of which competition to enter is for you to decide but take some time to read the information, notes and scoring sheets that you can access and download from the links below.  Judges will also do their best to help you select the best class for your TR.
    .
  • If there are 2 or less entrants in any of the Non-standard classes those TRs may be transferred to the Standard Class for the appropriate body shape.

  • Winners of the Standard & Modified Class in the previous year may only compete in the Masters Class.
